A collection instrument for comparing real radon mitigation quotes line by line — suction points, routing, sealing scope, fan, electrical, permit, and verification. Methodology published; zero observations held.

The methodology, the field schema, and the release threshold below are published before any data exists. That is deliberate: definitions fixed in advance cannot later be adjusted to produce a more interesting result, and a reader can see exactly what we have and have not measured.
First release at 250 observations.
Why we do not publish an estimate in the meantime
A modelled figure presented as data would be indistinguishable, to a reader, from the real thing — and would breach the editorial standard against inventing numbers to fill a gap. It would also make the first genuine release impossible to trust, because nobody could tell where the model ended and the observations began. Until the threshold is met, the platform publishes what drives a quote rather than what a quote costs.
How an observation is captured
- Homeowners who receive quotes through this platform may voluntarily submit the line items of the quotes they received. Submission is optional, is never a condition of an introduction, and is not solicited during an active negotiation.
- Only the scope fields and the total are retained. No address, name, contact detail, or contractor identity enters the dataset.
- Each observation is one quote, not one homeowner. A homeowner submitting three quotes contributes three rows, flagged as one comparison group so the analysis does not treat them as independent.
- Rows are published in aggregate. No individual quote is republished.

Methodology
The question this answers
On comparable scopes, how much do radon mitigation quotes actually vary, and which line items explain the variation?
How a row comes to exist
- Rows will be voluntarily submitted quote line items, normalised to the field schema above.
- The schema was fixed before any observation existed, which is the point: it cannot be adjusted later to produce a more interesting result.
- Comparison groups will be retained so multiple quotes on one house are not treated as independent observations.
Inclusion and exclusion
- Written quotes for residential radon mitigation in a state this platform serves.
- Verbal estimates, phone quotes without a site visit, and quotes for commercial property are excluded.
What this dataset cannot tell you
- Zero observations are held today. Nothing in this dataset should be cited as evidence about radon mitigation pricing.
- When published, the sample will be self-selected — homeowners who chose to submit — and will not be representative of the national market. That limitation will be stated on the release, not buried.
- Quote totals reflect scope, region, and time. Any release will report by scope class rather than as a single national figure.
