A passive device integrates everything it was exposed to. Moving it produces one number covering two places, with no way to work out how much came from each.

A continuous monitor is different: its hourly log usually makes the move visible, which is one of the practical reasons monitors hold up better under challenge.

Why this matters

What it changes about the decision in front of you.

The result no longer describes a location, and location is half of what a measurement means.
If the two positions differ materially — a shelf versus a floor, a cupboard versus open room — the blend is not interpretable.

What it could influence

Where the effect is likely to show, and in which direction where that is knowable.

The reading sits somewhere between what the two positions would each have produced, weighted by time in each, which nobody recorded.
If the move was brief and the positions were similar, the effect may be small, but "may be" is doing real work in that sentence.

What this does not settle

What still stands. Noticing a problem is not the same as losing the evidence.

If a continuous monitor was used, the log may show the move and let someone read the periods separately, which recovers most of the value.
The measurement still confirms the device was working and that measurable levels were present.
A move does not mean the house has a problem, or that it does not.

Worth having answers ready. None of these is a test you can fail.

Roughly when the move happened, and where the device went.
Whether the device logs by hour, because that changes what can be recovered.
Whether anyone can describe both positions well enough to compare them.

Whether the device type produces an hourly record or a single integrated figure.
Both positions, which you can still describe and measure now.

What genuinely needs somebody on site

Whether the two positions would be expected to read differently, which depends on the building rather than the description.
